This position will be split care for a Mother and her Son.

We are looking for someone who is friendly, thoughtful, caring, active and able. Ideally we would like someone who is good at organising and prioritising, who can use their initiative when choosing the best ways to help and aid us.

An interest in gardening and love of the outdoors, baking ability and creative skills would be helpful for the individuals care. Most of the cooking, washing and cleaning will be completed by family.

A female is preferred due to the nature of care needs but this role can be split.

It is essential that the candidate has a full driving licence and their own car, it would be helpful if insured to drive our vehicle too if needed. They must be able to handle the physical skills of lifting, handling, pushing and bending. Experience of care work would be beneficial but full training will be given.

 

This is a permanent contract.

£11 Per hour

A total of 14 hours per week.

Split between 10 hours supporting Mum and 4 hours supporting Son.

Mum’s hours will consist of 2 afternoons a week, one must be a Wednesday but the other afternoon can be flexible.

Son’s hours will consist of 1 afternoon a week to be alternated between Saturdays and weekdays (Tuesday or Thursday) after college. Flexibility with working days during school holidays.

 

Personal Assistant role for Mother:

She is a 49 year old mum of 4 who has been struggling for 10 years with Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia and constant neuropathic pain which affects the left side, limiting mobility & ability to carry out daily living tasks. She also suffers from PTSD. She will need assistance with day to day living, pacing, improving quality of life and interacting with others outside of the home.

Her interests include gardening, nature and animals, pottery and gentle kayaking. She also enjoys trips to the swimming pool for therapy.

She will need support with getting up and dressed, brushing hair and some light personal care tasks. She will also need help with housework such as putting away clean clothes, keeping areas clutter free, changing beading and overall keeping the house tidy, as well as help with gardening. Help with managing medication, therapies and nutrition including preparing food and reminding her to eat and drink. Support with managing triggers by using relaxation techniques, also providing support in social situations with help overcoming social anxiety needing plenty of encouragement and support. Transport support such as being driven to any appointments, help with shopping and being driven out to parks/countryside.

 

Personal Assistant role for Son:

He is a very happy and friendly 19 year old who suffers with Global Developmental Delay. He has similar communication and understanding to a 3 year old child and he is about the size of a 13 year old. He is generally healthy and physically able, however he does struggle with coordination and balance. Despite his struggles he has a real zest for life.

His interests include cycling, walking in the park, kayaking, trampolining, cinema and zoo drips. He also enjoys taking part in college clubs such as boccia, disco or drama. He likes to cook and bake at home but will need help with this. His favourite things to make are cheese straws, crumbles, cupcakes and cut out biscuit shapes.

The candidate will need to learn how to effectively communicate with him, creating a safe environment. He will need help with daily tasks such as dressing, supervising his toileting as he is still learning how to do this effectively and help keeping his room tidy. The desire is someone to help teach him life skills at home and out in the community.
